Where is the best place to live in England?

Travel Info
Having gone thru the past answers to this question out of the following, where is the best place to live where there is quiet neighborhoods, low crime, and not too far from London? Housing costs are a bit bit of an issue as well, I am looking at rent from 450-600 pcm. Thanks

Winchester is absolutely beautiful and was voted the number 1 place to live in the UK due to low crime and beautiful scenary, however, house prices are sky high at the moment, and it's not very close to London.

I would go for Surrey, it's about an hours train ride away from London. If you wanna live in the suburbs though- Pinner in Middlesex (greater London) has direct links into London, is a very nice little town and still has traditional events such as Pinner Fair and Pinner Panomime. Pinner is around a 45 minute tube ride. Source(s): I live in Greater London

Exeter and Dorset are about as far away from London as you can get!!

Oxfordshire is nice (I live there) and is only 40 miles from London. Berkshire is also nice - although you need to stick to the West. Essex has some lovely places and again is cheaper than London.
Surrey is the best.
Guildford has the lowest crime rate in the country and is in a very beautiful area and only 30min train journey to london waterloo. and also has good connections to london via the A3 motorway.
Yes Surrey is good but you need to be rich. I live 40 minutes away on the train from London. The houses selling in my road are all going for 拢250,000 - 拢300,000 (about $1/2 million to $600,000). These are all 3 bed houses and the 拢300,000 one was a bungalow! So renting would be quite expensive too. Just be prepared that it's hugely expsenive here!
