Hotels and Flights from NYC to LA?

Okay, I live in NYC and wanna know the cheapest flights I can get to LA and ALSO, I'm looking to stay in a hotel, again, not too expensive. I hear a lot of bad stuff about LA, like its dangerous downtown in the city and its not that great a place to stay. I know we're going to the LA area so, are there any places or neighborhoods in particular that i should stay away from/ or consider, not too expensive?

you should take MAS.becoz it is very cheap. you should stay away from black people area.but in white people also is very dangerous too.tou should go to kedah..very cool place..
We keep hearing about how the people from New York are rude, and not friendly, but that's not really true either.

The trick to getting the LOWEST air fares is to book well in advance. Get your best price from any of the many travel consolidators (Expedia, Travelosity, Orbitz, etc), then purchase the exact same itinerary directly from the airlines website. You eliminate the brokers commission. There are 5 airports in the L.A. metropolitan area. Do you know where you will be going?

Hotels near the airport, and major tourist attractions tend to be slightly more expensive than hotels away from those areas, but there are exceptions. The most notable area to avoid is the South central / Compton area. As in any big city, just keep your eyes open, and you'll be OK.
LA isnt even that dangerous anymore it has calmed down since the last 5 years
NYC is worst than LA
LA didnt even make it to the top 25 most dangerous cities
but places like the Bronx, Brooklyn etc. are maybe like Watts, south central, east LA, etc.
