They won't kick you off, but Venice Beach gets *very* dangerous at night. Lots of gang activity and disturbed people.
The beach officially closes at 10 PM, but I would get out of there long before. Venice is one of those beaches where a certain seedy element comes out at night. You really don't want to be there.

Try something like Dockweiler, Huntington, or Bolsa Chica for a good late night bonfire. The beaches there supposedly close at 10, but as long as you are quiet, you can stay considerably later.

Like they said, it officially closes at 10, but there are restaurants and some shops still open on the boardwalk.

Just don't do anything stupid. Like get falling down drunk with people you don't know, etc.
It never closes..but it is a bit seedy late at night.. great during the day..
