Anyone have an update on the California fires? |
Travel Info Excuse my vagueness but someone I know online who lives in the California area lives close to where there were fires in the mountain areas around California a a few days ago. I haven't heard from them for a few days and just wondered if anyone had an update on that situation? Travel Tips i live in Lake Tahoe. its still pretty bad, but i am thankful that nobody has died. i appreciate you for caring. *hugs*. Others sorry, haven't watched the news lately. The Lake Tahoe fire is still going. They say it crossed a backfire the fireman had set. People who had been evacuated and later returned to their homes have been asked to leave again. According to the last account, there were no more homes lost, but the total is still pretty high. My ex husband lives up there and believe it or not, I care and keep track. We have fires all the time down here in the Los Angeles area-but so far today-nothing. It's south of Lake Tahoe near Angora and Echo Lakes, about 50% contained. Many evacuations, most recently the Tallac Village development when the fire jumped the fire line. Lake Tahoe is in Northern California, on the Nevada border. LA is in southern California, or Northern Mexico, as we're beginning to call it. I heard the winds are expected to pick up this afternoon. Not good. No deaths or injuries so far, but still lots of evacuations. Your friend is probably sitting it out in a nearby school gym, waiting for the all-clear to return home. High winds and extremly dry conditions have hampered efforts to extinguish the flames. But no immediate risk to lives. Google "lake tahoe fire" and check the news links for ongoing details. UPDATE- as of thursday, the fires are largely contained and out of the inhabited areas. Residents are starting to be allowed to return to their homes (or in some cases, what's left of them). |
