Travel Info What gives with free monday nights at the comedy store and the bad comics? Travel Tips Monday is traditionally a dark night for comedy clubs (and most stage shows - night off for the performers). But an empty club doesn't make money. So the operators run various specials to bring in customers. Some do open-mic or no-name performers and skip cover charge, to get food and drink buying customers in the door. Some Improv's do "T-shirt night". Tuesday nights (the start of a comic's typical week-long sting), everyone wearing an Improv T-shirt gets free admission - the idea being to fill the house with a friendly crowd of regulars on the comic's opening night. Others I thought that was rather obvious. The "Ding Dong Show" is a take-off of the old "Gong Show". It's basically open mic for people who think they can be funny. Who knows? You might actually see something funny. The comedy is so bad, you'll probably need a drink, which is what they are hoping. They have to start somewhere...those are the worse days to go. |
