N. Hollywood? I'm taking a job in LA, am going to live with a friend near Santa Monica Blvd and the 101...? |
Travel Info is the crime pretty bad here? He said it's not the best neighborhood but not the ghetto. I'm worried about my car, I have a decent car and want to avoid getting it broken into. does anyone know about this area? I'm pumped about moving, would sell my car if it had to come to that Travel Tips I knew a guy who lived in that area, it wasn't as bad as people say, and I didn't live too far from it myself (SM & Seward, East of Highland). I did get my piece of junk car broken into a few times, which sucked. Car alarms are useless, nobody pays any attention to those. We had a lot of homeless people and migrants who would throw their stuff in our tree at my apartment building, and sleep on our stairs. Also, SM in that are is well known for transvestite/transgender hookers. I don't know how many times my boyfriend was asked if he wanted a "real woman" when he went to 7-11 after 10 PM. Here's my advice: Keep your car spotless (nothing inside to tempt a passer-by. Try to keep clear on Thursday through Saturday nights, if possible. There are a lot of clubs in this area, and all the bad nights are club nights. The closer you are to Sunset, the better. Sunset is a lot higher class, and even Hollywood Blvd has classed up quite a bit, where it's much safer. If you have to live in that area, good luck, but if you're looking for safe and affordable, try some areas in West LA, near Culver City. It's really close by surface streets (I almost never used the freeway, myself.), it's more affordable, and it is a lot safer. Cars don't get broken into so much, clubs are not so plentiful, and it's got a lot of residential areas, so not a lot of unsavory types just walking around. If you're on a ground level, just make sure the windows are always closed and locked (you would not believe how many people don't do that), which is pretty much common sense. Also, in West LA, more buildings offer parking for no extra charge. Good luck! Source(s): Lived in LA for 7 years. Other Travel Tips Yes, Santa Monica Blvd. and 101 is not the best neighborhood. I wouldn't park there at night. But if your friend's place has a garage, it's OK. If you want to find your own place later, move several miles to the West (even around the same Santa Monica Blvd, but west of Fairfax Ave. MUCH better area.) the neighborhood can be a little troubled. Please look into it before you move. lol have u seen the cars in santa monica? they have lambo's and bentleys so why would they want ur bum@$$ car lol.. its a pretty safe neigborhood just dont be out late bcuz thats when the shemale hookers be out ao phil u would see when u get there then.. hey look on www.zillow.com it will show u a birds eye view. its not bad to me maybe bcuz im from rialto, ca :) Hi Phil, FYI, that's not North Hollywood (which is actually in the San Fernando Valley), it's just Hollywood. It's close to the Los Feliz and Silverlake areas, as well as Larchmont and KoreaTown, so it's not TOO bad. Not quite "ghetto", but definitely not a good place to park your car on the street. If your car is just decent, chances are it might be left alone, if it doesn't stand out. If you don't have a car alarm, you should get one. The cool part is that you will be close to LOT of things. You're close to downtown, you can take the Red Line there if you want, Tommy's is close by. Want some free advice? Don't forget to let your friend know how grateful you are (if your not, you should be), and don't make a move on his girl (or guy... this IS LA, after all). Welcome, and good luck |
