Facts about Pomona?

Travel Info
I am planning on attending Cal Poly Pomona...I was wondering about crime rates, average income for a job that requires a high school diploma (retail), average rent, information such as that that I have listed. Any additional info is appreciated. Thank you all!

Travel Tips
Cal Poly Pomona is actually on the edge of Pomona near Walnut and West Covina. There is a 2 year college Mount San Antonio College which kind shares a border with the school.

Having lived in the area for years and having attended both schools, I think you should look for housing in Walnut, West Covina, Hacienda Hgts, Diamond Bar, or Covina. There is housing in Pomona but there is a lot of crime and unless you know the area or are a thrill seeker you need a guide. Housing will be fairly expensive Median contract rent in West Covina in 2005: $1,038 ($925, to $1,237). The school has limited housing. You may be able to find a room for rent or a share and that should help. You could look in La Puente, Baldwin Park, Azusa for lower rents but your getting further away from the school and the quality of housing starts to go down and your travel cost go up so you have to make a trade off.

There are lots of retail in the City of Industry and the cities listed above and I'm sure you will have no problem getting a retail job. There are several malls in the area, Eastland Shoping Center and The Puente Hills Mall are two big ones but there are many.

I would also say it would be near impossible to attend school there without a car because of the distances.

Other Travel Tips
Cool. I live in Pomona, and my sister attended Cal Poly. I actually rent a 1 bedroom apartment for $845. Crime rates? I don't know, but you should be safe as long as you stay away from the ghetto parts of town.
Ahh, the lovely city of Pomona....Quite possibly the very armpit of Southern california. Crime rates almost certainly rank among the worst in the state, the bulk of LA's pollution has a penchant for settling in this hot, dirty valley, and the job outlook for someone with an education would be bleak at best. If you have other options, I would suggest entertaining those first, and consider Pomona as a last resort. Seriously.
Pomona is not too nice of a place, but Poly sits next to two freeways: The 57 and 10. In minutes you can be in Brea, or LA. I would rent in La Verne, or San Dimas. However, Upland and Rancho Cucamonga are nice. Rent can be pricey; 500-1000. I know the area well as I got my Master's there.
ok, Pomona is scary! do NOT, i repeat NOT go near "Plaza Azteca" on Indian Hill Blvd. unless u want to be scared.
u can go on the city's or police website and get stats for crime etc...

cal poly is nice tho, alot of ppl i know have gone there.

i reccomend u move to claremont, or upland to find housing.
been living in the IE for 29 years.(expert)
