Travel Info
I'm a young guy, orginally from a very small town in Arkansas, just thought i'd try something different one day, and packed up and moved to Dallas, been livin here for almost 2 years, but i'm over it already, is LA a good place to move or no, besides the cost of living.. Just want some opinions..

I was transferred from Dallas to LA less than 2 years ago and I don't miss Dallas at all. I've been back once and that was for a business trip.

Honestly, my advice to you is do not move out here unless you have a job. You can count on EVERYTHING here costing about 30-40% more than they did in Dallas.
Dallas resident for 34 years.
Hope you have a lot of money. Leaving in California is not cheap.
Traffic is bad. Much worst than Dallas. be prepared.
Weather is much nicer.
People might not be as nice as in Dallas. Specially on the roads.
L. A. It is a yucky place!!! It is violent, VERY SMOGGY(when I was in school there were days we couldn't go out side because it was soo bad & this was like 17 yrs ago, so think how it is now) ,people have bad attiudes, the work is not all that good, TRAFFIC, the houseing is way tooo high, the schools are not good(one of the lowest in the US). I just think it is not good anymore!! I lived there 30yrs. My husband & I moved to Las Vegas,NV. The work is much better, houseing is a lot cheaper, this town has a lot to do!! Good luck!!!
L.A. rocks !!! BUT, you had better have money. Although, I always did wonder what it would be like to live as a bum on the Venice Beach strand.
I spent five years in Dallas and have now been in SoCal (north of LA area) for 6 years. I like them both for different reasons. They're both expensive places to live, but you'll probably make more money in LA.

Things I liked about Dallas:
Culture, southern hospitality, general friendliness, cosmopolitan atmosphere, lots of nice communities

Things I hated about Dallas:
Weather, driving anywhere near downtown, drivers tailing you through lights as they turn red (they don't do that in LA), drivers using the shoulder as an extra lane (I rarely see this in LA)

Things I like about LA area:
Weather, ocean, beaches, loooots of things to do, lots of arts and culture, manageable drive to Vegas or various skiing areas, most jobs I've seen here pay better than most other areas of the country. I'd advise you to live outside of LA proper - pick one of the surrounding communities, like in the Valley maybe.

Things I hate about LA area:
Depending on where you are, it can be violent, dirty, expensive and chock full of bad attitudes, generally not a friendly place, certain parts can be very touristy. But if you land in the right community you can avoid all that and pretty much just enjoy the weather. However, the traffic is bad pretty much everywhere just because of the sheer volume of people on the roads.
