Travel Tips
Malibu or Beverly Hills.

They are the best places but certainly not the cheapest. Probably the most expensive but you asked for the "best".

Hollywood......It is tacky in a lot of parts but centrally located to the studios and more reasonably priced. There are lots of people just like yourself trying to make it in the biz that call Hollywood home. West Hollywood is better, it has a huge gay community and more in demand thus more expensive. Hollywood Hills is by far the best but very costly.

Hollywood is NOT what you are most likely expecting it to be so be prepared. It is not glitz and glamor with movie stars walking around. That would be Beverly Hills or Malibu.

Tips on making it in the business:

be yourself but be your best self. Expect rejection and be able to handle rejection without being defeated, remember that less than 4% of the actors and actresses here are what you would call successful. It is a dog eat dog business and not for the faint of heart.

Go to Central Casting and start off doing Extra work. It will get you seen, on sets, in studios. It will be a start and you can make a little money at it. They will want a head shot and you can be used in a variety of movies, etc. Here is their link and you can check it out before you get here as well.

For a record deal get a CD of your voice, various types of music and have it handy. Contact the various Recoding Companies and even send them that CD....oh make lots of copies! Go out to the "hot" karaoke spots and sing your heart out. If you are really good, you will stand out and keep going cuz you just never know who might hear you and offer you some kind of work. Work is they key!!!

A lot of the Biz is networking and who you know. Never comprise your integrity, ethics and especially your morals. That will destroy your soul and who you are.

Work on getting an agent which is harder than you might expect....a good one that is. Get a portfolio together with various "looks" as those pictures are what will get you work,

It is wonderful out here but it is also tough out here. Be strong and have "Plan B" ready in the event that "Plan A" doesn't work.

Never....and I mean never give up that dream. Just understand that there are a lot of other people right next to you with the very same dream.

Finally, trust your self, believe in yourself...if you don't no one else will. Good luck and God Bless you and yours!

Have a great move west, you will be glad that you did rather than have to live with regrets or "if only I did that". Break a leg! Source(s): Been around the block a few times!
Other Travel Tips
Obviously the L.A. area. Duh.
i think hollywood....or long beach

most of the major cities in CA probaly have deals
Be careful. this is one of numerous questions about making it in the big time. If you have toask thiese types of questions you are not ready to come to california to make it in the business. Yahoo Answeres is a fun interchange of tips and banter. This is not a talent agency or a career counselor thing. I suggest you develop a relationship with a talent agent.
Phil Spector's house.

Understand, are roads are paved with people like you that come here to be "discovered." The odds are stacked against you. But what the hell, nothing ventured, nothing gained. As long as you're not leaving behind six hungry babies, then go for it.

Register with the Extra agencies, get your head shots, network, take classes, make a demo tape and send it around, find an agent, have a career to fall back on.
