both are great ! try to book yourself a full board package on any resort that you think is good, then go island hopping to explore the beautifulness of the islands ! meaning you can cover Perhentian Besar, Kecil n Redang during your stay !

Perhentian Kecil has a fishing village so you get to buy some grocery or even food, at local price. Perhentian Besar only for tourist !

How to get there? the package should take care of everything, like return boat transfer, 5 meals a day, hotel stay, snorkeling trip etc etc, if its ex-Kuala Lumpur or else you have to go to Kuala Besut [ where you board your boat ] by bus or taxi, thats about 8 to 9 hours journey ! by flight only take you to Kuala Terengganu, another taxi ride of about 2 hours is required to get to K.B.

if you have the time, driving there will be fun ! of course that 8/9 hours journey is very tiring but if you plan the trip properly, you got to witness the country side as you cruise through the coastal road, from Cherating all the way til KB ! Ya, you can stop at Kuantan [ Teluk Chempedak ], Cherating [ the turtle hatchery, the beautiful beach, deer farm ], Kemaman [ try the coffee at kopitiam n kelopok lekor ], Rantau Abang [ stay one night to try your luck at spotting the turtle landing to lay eggs ], Marang [ Kapas Island if you wanted to detour a little, the fried sotong/cutter fish ], Kuala Terengganu [ Pasar Payang for shopping of all kind of local delicacy, beautiful t-shirt, batek, songket ] then finally Kuala Besut !

I was in Perhentian Kecil 3 weeks ago. Booked through a travel agent who arranged for the flight from KLIA and transfer to the jetty and boat ride to the Watercolours Resort. The resort itself was a little run down, offering only basic facilities. I heard there are better ones around.

Frankly, the corals were a little disappointing. I'd choose to go to another island next time.

if you wanna go perhentian don't stay at Arwana Resort, u'll regret!! u can pay for 3 islands, means that u're going to 3 island(to see the corals/ snorkelling only)... www.leisureworld.com.my
