I am from jordan but planning on attending a university in Alor setar (UUM), any advice, i am open to anything |
Travel Info Hello, okay i would like to know what i should be preparing for in the sense that most people talk abuot kuala lumpur and penang but i havent heard anyone mention alor setar, so can someone be clearer than the vague results that came out from google (not clear) and tell me how life is, the citizens, kind of places one can go to (malls, musems, etc), are there any beaches there? ANY ADDITIONAL ADVICE FROM YOU WOULD BE HELPFUL!! Plus does anyone know if the UUM (univeriti utara malaysia) universty is accredited, and if you heard about it what do you think of it compared to other universities in malaysia? Finally, can you write this question in the malay language plz: Is UUM accredited? AND the word Internationally THANKS ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!! Travel Tips Hey, I work for a university in New York and we consider UUM, also known as Nothern University of Malaysia, to be accreditedb since it operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Ed. Here is a link from UNESCO that also recognizes UUM ; http://www.unesco.org/iau/onlinedatabase... My book sources are kinda out of date but it does look like a decent college. I am not sure though how it compares to the rest of the universities. Others UUM located not quite near to alor star but alor star is the nearest city. It's location is quite 'isolated' from others and surrounded by rain forest. i was there once and feel good in that kind of peaceful environment. for people from jordan this must be the kind of environment you want to experience. the place also close to a highway where you can reach Alor star about 30 mins, Penang 2 hours. Ipoh 3.5 hours, KualaLumpur 5.5 hours, Thailand Border 20 minutes. The nearest town is Changloon. Second nearest is Jitra. Alor star the third Have no idea on accredited thing because I'm graduated from Idon'tgoto University of Malaysia :-) Hi Let truth be told UUM is situated very far from the nearest city, in one of the poorest state in Malaysia. BUT- that's the purpose of a university, to get away from distractions and study, study, study. My advice is that during your weekends or holidays, visit KL Putrajaya for urban touring or if u are into beaches and stuffs, go to Penang or Langkawi. UUM IS accreditized by the Malaysian government, but I don't know whether it is accreditized by yours. UUM is a public university but it's not one of the top universities in Malaysia. Is UUM accredited? = Adakah UUM diakreditasi? Internatioally = Peringkat Antarabangsa Email me at nick_ramzi@yahoo.com or just add me in your Yahoo Messenger, alright! p/s: I'm a Malaysian student studying in University Malaysia Sarawak, another public university in Malaysia Both Nick & Boss are right. Its a great place to study though despite its quite up north of Malaysia. Let me mention stuff which does not been mention before. UUM is quite near to -Thailand -Langkawi Island -Perlis. so you wont been bored during semester break, lots of stuff & activity. I do recommend you follow University activity such as camping, trekking , vacation or even explore the famous cave in Perlis.. Its a great place to study thats what i can say.. UUM is accredited university in Malaysia. & i think its also recognised by your country as well. first and foremost, u need to learn malay fluently. UUM use malay widely. for undergraduate, the medium they're using is complete malay. while for postgraduate, they use english. as far as i know, UUM is not among the well known unis in Malaysia. it is well known for popularity only because it's a govt uni, based on academic it is not among the chosen ones. i would prefer if you choose other unis in malaysia. they are a lot more that academically choosen my friends studying in UUM |
