Travel Info Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. How do expats find living there? what is the cost of a reasonable low rise apartment? Travel Tips The 2 answerers above are spot on regarding properties. Thumbs up to them. Just to add to that: Eating out is cheap and great. Lots of eateries and drinking holes around Hartamas and Bangsar where most expats prefer to live. There is an International school in Hartamas and is relatively very expensive. Like RM40K (US$12K) for registration alone. Cars are also expensive compared to most countries except for Singapore. Maids are very affordable and available. Get yourself pampered to death. The best part is Local holidays are fantastic and extremely cheap. Go to a new place every weekend. Many superb places like: Genting highlands- theme park, mountain resort, casino Frasers hill- mountain resort, jungle walks, golf Malacca-historical town Penang- historical city, good food, tourists' favorite National park - can hike up gunung tahan (7 days) if you are very fit Tioman, Rawa-rawa - scuba Ipoh - great food, pretty girls Kota Kinabalu - golf, eco-tourism Mt Kinabalu - highest peak in SE Asia, hiking Sipadan - top 3 dive spot in the world (J Cousteau) Kuching -eco tourism - go to Mulu caves Others I'm not an expat, but I know a lot expats love it here. Cost of living is low and Malaysians are expat friendly. You need more info from the expats in Kuala Lumpur, visit this site : http://www.expatkl.com.my OR http://www.expatkl.com/v3_index2.php... A typical low rise apartment will cost you about 170,000-200,000 ringgit (about 50,000 US dollars). Cheers! Most of the expats that I know love it here as cost of living are quite low compared to Singapore. In terms of low rise apartment, it wil depends on the area that you are looking at, Bangsar & Mont Kiara area will start from RM3,500 onwards for rental. If you are looking at Damansara perdana area, it will be cheaper like RM2,000 onwards. Depend on your lifestyle and salary. 3-5K per months/ 2-3 room 2000 sq feet is the rental average for an expat in KL. Bangsar, Ampang, Mont Kiara, and Tanjung Bungah/Ferringhi (Penang) are the place for expats. Most expats I have met prefer Malaysia due to its location and low standard of living. Law, political stability, weather, tax free (under MMH2 program) are the major factors. http://www.malaysiaexpat.com Hi My husband and I are both expats ... we've been in KL 12 years and love it! For the first 9 years, we lived in a rented condo in Bangsar. When we decided to make Malaysia our home for the foreseeable future, we bought an apartment. As mentioned by the earlier postings, rentals in Bangsar, Bukit Damansara and Mont Kiara offer the best range in terms of price. You should be able to rent a very decent 1,500 sq ft apartment for about USD1,000 a month. A 2,000 sq ft one for about USD1,500. All depends on how new the apartment is. I note developers in Bangsar are currently building bigger units (3,000 sq ft and above) and these would cost about USD3,000 for the newer units. Malaysia is cheap when compared with Singapore and Japan. She also offers a very good standard of living and I would consider her to be a middle-ground between Thailand and Singapore.
