Useful Malaysian slang? |
Travel Info Is there any good Malaysian slang that I can use for my 3 week trip there? (lah is about the only one I know....lah) hehehe! Travel Tips Bob..check out on this link..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/manglish... Some of the many applications of "lah" Coaxing~~ Come on-lah; don't be like that-lah; please-lah Forceful~~ Shut up-lah; get out-lah; go to hell-lah Apologetic~~ Sorry-lah Fed up~~ Enough-lah Really fed up~~ f***-lah Definite~~ Of course-lah; sure-lah Generous~~ Take some more-lah Unyielding~~ Cannot-lah Dumbfounded~~ What-lah Reluctant~~ Dowan-lah! (A contraction of "don't want-lah") Suggestive~~ Try-lah Agreeable~~ Okay-lah Disagreeable~~ Your head-lah lol.. Others aiyo. you took the best one LAH! LAH is undoubtedly the backbone in a true Malaysian slang but know when to use it properly... Others vary among races like 'aiyo/aiya', 'kot', 'aiseh...' Mana ada is not a slang it's just a malay term... Alamak!...which literally means Oh, Mum! is one used often if something unfortunate happens. Malaysia Ha Ha! Myra has gotten the very essence of 'lah'. And during your stay here, you may notice that many do not emphasize on the pronunciation of 't', 'd', 'r' and 'th'. Like 'dowan' for 'don't want' (borrowing from Myra). And the Chinese likes to say 'meh', eg. 'Really, meh?' That means, "Is it really so?' Enjoy your stay here! I'm sure it will be an eye-opener. lah is the best =) very very malaysian..also use "or not?" eg: can or not, got or not, want or not |
