What is a non bumiputera ?

Travel Info
What is a non bumiputera? Is he/ she classified as a second class citizen? I mean, is Malaysia the same country that's claiming to be well on it's way to first world status by 2020. You do realise that first world status does not only apply to economic growth, social growth is considered the epitome of first world status, or do we just not care? What is this propoganda anyways in the last UMNO rally?
And would someone clarify this for me:

You want to know what is so screwed up about this. Its in the schools. You know the Bumiputras need to score less to get a better grade and lower requirement to enter the local universities & get to their preferred choice of degrees.

It is true that equal distribution of the wealth did happen after independance and needed to happen but after 50 years, the inequal sharing of the wealth & continuos discrimination base on color and religion is just sad.

Can you tell me why in the school exams is there any need for you to put in your race?. Of course the bumis don't see is this way because if you ask most Malays, the answer is simple, 'if you don't like it...leave because you were never part of Malaya anyway'.

actually bumiputras or non bumiputras are the same its just that bumiputras enjoy special.........(cant find a word.. special wat?)

second class citizens are those who migrated in malaysia.

This stupid bumiputra thing, that is unfair to people.
i wonder what malaysia will be if all non-bumiputras leave malaysia.
there are so ungrateful!
The Malays by themselves are only just short of 50% of Malaysia's population so they included other indiginous people and now totalling about 55% to 60% called themselves collectively as "bumiputeras" or sons of the earth. Under the constitution they gave themselves special rights over other Malaysians who are the non-bumiputeras.
As you rightly put it, the non bumiputeras are the second class citizens.
After 50 years of independence we still have a racist constitution whereas aparteid has long disappeared from South Africa.

For clickless, the analogy to American red indians is similar but not exact. The original inhabitants are the aboriginals known as "Orang Asli" , or the "original people" . When the Malays came over the last 1,000 years from where Yunan now is, they drove the orang asli out from the fertile valleys to the hill lands. That was in the Malaysian history books before it got changed about 20-30 years ago (Please check this out!). Even the Malays are immigrants (1,000 years or so, in numbers about 600 years ago) whereas the Chinese first arrived about 400 years ago (in numbers about 150 years ago) and the Indians mostly around 100 -150 years ago. As in America, the older groups of immigrants have the toughest stance against the more recent arrivals. To the red indians and orang asli, they are all immigrants.
Ermmmm, they get 5% discount in O.C. Obtained buldings in Malaysia.........................
I disagree with those above. Malays can do well by themselves. But that is not the point, Malays or not, we are all Malaysians & should work together. Bumiputera's only gain a small benefit out of fairness.
Bumiputra or Bumiputera (Malay, from Sanskrit Bhumiputra; translated literally, it means "son of the soil"), is an official definition widely used in Malaysia, embracing ethnic Malays as well as other indigenous ethnic groups such as the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia and the tribal peoples in Sabah and Sarawak. Economic policies designed to favour Bumiputras (including affirmative action in public education) were implemented in the 1970s in order to defuse inter-ethnic tensions following the May 13 Incident in 1969, but these have not been fully effective in eradicating poverty among rural bumiputras and have further caused a backlash of resentment on the part of non-bumi ethnic groups.

What is a non-bumiputera? Non-bumi in the land of Malaysia is used for the minority races like Chinese and Indians. Your link says it all. The minorities are called second class citizen simply because our forefathers migrated to Malaya decades ago. In Chinese, we are called 浜岀瓑鍏皯. So, we are the immigrants here. Apparently the bumis still have that mentality no matter how much we sacrifice, slog and bleed for this country, we will still be looked upon as nothing more than immigrants and will never be loyal to this country. But they have not thought that by setting all this disparity and restrictions, how can the non-bumis have a sense of belonging? And by claiming that this land belongs to ONLY you is so selfish.

My personal opinion is Malaysia will never fulfill its dreams of Wawasan 2020 in time. Not with the kinds of baboon politicians that we have. Malaysia will celebrate its half a century birthday soon and yet its 'sons of the soil' only has a mindset befitting of a 7 year old child.

Who is trying to challenge their rights or take away their dignity? All we ask is just for EQUAL RIGHTS. The Bumis should really heed the advices of former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad who has bemoaned the extreme reliance of Bumiputras on their privileges: "We have tried to tell them if you depend on subsidies, you are going to be very weak. But they don鈥檛 seem to understand. We tell them if you use crutches, you will not be able to stand up. Throw away the crutches, stand up straight because you still have the capacity. I have talked about this thing and as a doctor I know very well the meaning of crutches but somehow or rather they want the easy way out. If I get an AP and I sell it and make some money, it鈥檚 all right, they say."

Hehe Haha is so right to refer to apartheid in SA. It was only there for 45 years. We have special privileges for the 'sons of the soil' for like how many years now? Well, all I can say is good job. Continue to rely lah on this special privileges and let's see who will continue to prosper in years to come.

I really don't want to say more now. You have really got me provoked when I read through the whole article. If I continue on, I will never stop condemning those political baboons of ours.
