Do u find that theres lots of the pan-asian look in magazine and advertisements? |
Travel Info its like a lot .. i think now u seldom see a really pure malay/chinese/indian look (correct me if i'm wrong) now everyone wants to look eurasian .. Travel Tips I would guess is a trend just like fashion. may later in year the pan-asian look will be back again. Others In Asian and ASEAN advertising, you are 100% correct. No one without a Eurasian look gets much exposure in ads here. You're not even seeing the real trend either! I've lived in China and Japan & spent some time in Korea...and they are insane in their quest to look 'less asian'/ more western. They will get eye lid cosmetic surgery for teenagers, every thing made for skin has a whitening agent, and most of them dye their hair lighter shades. No one is ever happy with the way they look. But it has a lot to do with the marketing of people...you've never seen a woman with small eyes in a TV commercial have you? They want the Asian look with the benifits of western blood. Not to mention that the US now is very anti ethnicity...and they are the ones shelling out the 'ideal'...right? But it's not just the US either. In the fashion world there are very few Asian women models. (Not that any of those women would be considered attractive). But the reason that you are seeing more pan-asian look women now is because the buying power of Asia is growing. I'm talking China & India. There are a lot of recent immigrants to Canada from both of these countries and they have money now. BUT the advertisers don't want to push away it's western consumers when they open up to the Asian markets. Who cares ?! True. That's because most major companies are now seriously eyeing the Asian market- which has a younger population who wants to spend- unlike in the West, where the population is older and hence, have no reasons to spend on such products. It's also cheaper to make ads in Asia as compared to the west. u r rite.. but y?? well, it depends, there are two major fashions, one is eurasian, one is asian. eurasian fashions are like the one u r refering to , asian fashion are mainly japanese/korean/taiwanese. these asian fashion caught followers easily because of the dramas they produce. some people wanna look like asian, wanna look like japanese/korean.. they did eyelit surgery, to make it single eyelit, to look like koreans. japanese/korean/taiwanese fashion are quite strong in asia, so its not everybody wanna look like eurasians. |
