THUMBS-DOWN. When do you give one?

Travel Info
I notice that in Travel Malaysia, answerers are very fond of giving the thumbs-down sign, especially of late.
How do you justify your giving one? Offensive or rude answers? Negative racial or religious remarks? Disagree with the answerer's point of view? Or maybe you had a bad day?
Do you get offended if you get a thumbs-down?

I know this is not travel related, but this is where most Malaysians gather.

Let me be one of the first to answer. YES. Lately I do notice there is a lot of thumbing down on not just my answer but other answers as well. And it's for no apparent good reason. I'm just so puzzled and disappointed by those people who loves to give thumbs down.

For me, I will only AND ONLY exercise the right to rate people down when the answer is offensive, full of discrimination and sardonicism and totally irreverent. NO. I do not simply give low ratings just because I had a bad day. I still know how to separate my personal life from my work life. Are you offended if you get a thumbs down? Depends. Recently, I gave some payback to some fellow users here (which I don't regret) and I got some thumbs down (not that I don't expect it). But if I do get thumbs down (unexpectedly) for trivial questions, then it is a cause for feeling nonplussed.

yes we are all for fun, thats why we dont care about our points.
thumbs up or thumbs down, so what? it only lets people see how stupid or how good is your answer. At least by looking at the thumbs u are able to know how well did u contributed to YA.
Well, Mr. Bean calls them 'Mad Dogs' who like barking up the mountain till they get 'sore throats'...

Anyway, many of those t/downs are from Thumberlinas and Thumb&Thumbers who don't have any proper or real sense of judgement. They only pick on specific users and give them thumb downs.

Don't take them personally/seriously and move on. I asked this question a long time ago and it was reported. I hope you don't have to go through what I've gone (and still going)
through...

To answer your questions:
Offensive or rude answers?
Yes

Negative racial or religious remarks?
Most of the time

Disagree with the answerer's point of view?
I'd leave them alone

Or maybe you had a bad day?
Well, everyday is a good day for me :-) okay... honest answer, no... I simply avoid some questions or answers.

I give many of the users t/ups by the way... most of them who are genuine truly deserves their t/ups.
TheBear is not affected by t/downs by the way... it won't deduct any points :-) Some people are just 'clicking happy' people...
Hi all,

When I as a question here I like the answers to be relavent. If the answer are not relavent and totally out of the context, i would give it the thumbs down. Loads of people here do not take the trouble to think their answer through.

I am usually more generous with thumbs up for answers that i find informative. SOme copycats here deserves mega thumbs down as you can clearly tell that they are merely rewriting the answers given by earlier answerers.

Anyhow i guess the perogative of giving ratings is up to all readers.

One persons meat is the other persons poison.

Que sera sera.
I am just level 1 so i have not tried it yet.
I guess you would when you dont like the answer becuase it is wrong or offensive in some way.
But i think some people here just do it without a valid reason.
i dont have the time to thumbs down people, but i do make time to thumbs up answers that i like, especially funny answers that made me laugh.
