Travel Info Should Malaysia become a secular state and get rid of Islam as its official religion? According to Malaysian government run cencus' only 67% of Malaysians are Muslim. This does not include the fact that in the Borneon States of Sabah and Sarawak the majority of the population are non Muslims and there is a huge Christian population. Indians and Chinese are typically non muslim are also a major slice in the Malaysian population. Travel Tips Don't mind the insults. You know, I have faced worse situations than you and I support you for asking such things here for the sake of opening up some people's minds (can of worms). The issue about fighting on Yahoo Answers is totally unrelated and its totally up to them and I think/imagine about so they can just avoid this question if they don't like it. If they're so easily insulted, why are they here/answering you in the first place? Personally, I think it should (for the status of Islam to be reviewed). Or even better, make ALL religions official rather than the 'Islamization' of everything in Malaysia. After all, they LOVE to claim that Malaysia is so multiracial, multicultural, multi this and that, wouldn't you agree with me? But in reality, I think almost all Malaysians have learned the hard way out and live with it. They will NEVER accept changes and when things happen, it would be as if its going to be apocalypse on the next day. So much of fuss and too many racial sentiments to be brought up later onwards... so, this question is not going to make any difference in the end. If you are trying to find out honest and sincere opinion, then I think you should know by now since your nature of question shows your level of knowledge and awareness. You won't find real 'answers' from the rest of them if they are too emotionally charged with nationalism and over patriotism spirit in them (try checking on the profiles/answers of the regulars here and you'll know what I mean... ). I don't care what the government's census or whatever figures they've got to prove. You know that the Malaysian government is full of conspiracy, lies and can't be trusted especially in facts and figures. All they care about is to 'help' their own race and suck the blood and money from people's taxes (and they say its Halal). Islam, on the other hand, is too politicized in Malaysia... that's the truth about what you'd like to/should know. Have fun! What makes you think you are not a weakling? If you dare to talk so much, find a speakers' corner and talk it out... Dun do it here... So what if it is an Islam country or a secular country? As long as the people are living happily and the economy are strong, why should anyone complain? I think if you should have post this in the religion section. Malaysian Islam have all the privilege given by the Islam government. That is why Malaysia Malays dominate government can't complete globally . Many of the bright and talented other race left the country. So its good for secular state.? Nothing wrong in having a state religion as long as the country is secular. Since the majority are muslims then the state religion should be Islam. That does not mean that Islamic laws should supersede secular laws. It is disappointing that in Lina Joy's case the judge do not have the courage to decide whether one can change religion from Islam but instead passed on that right to to the Shariah court. Religion is a very personal thing and everyone has a right to what they believe. Why should someone tell you what you ought to believe. The inquisition failed, so will the Shariah court. Aloo..do you want us to tell you that you are like an idiot that needs to be knock on your head??? Can we please for godsake not to discuss any politic, religion or rights here in a TRAVEL section?? Enough is enough! Who cares anyway on what the country should be or not to be?? Be it Islam, Christian, Buddist, Hindu or whatever..you still can get and cari makan or not in Malaysia?? Are we or not live in a peacefully environment right now?? So if you answered yes, then shut the hell up and move on will ya?? |
