Are the banks are also corrupted in Malaysia?

Travel Info
You need to expand your business capital so you go to a bank for a loan, and the officer demands 10% commision from you should the loan is approved. In some cases, the officer would demand a 15% commission if the amount of loan is above RM100,000. Doesn't this also contribute to fact that many needy ones resort to loan sharks (Ah Long)? I am sure you or friends or somebody you know faced this situation before?

Travel Tips
You are probably asking this from a experience or from somebody else's experience since your level of question exposes some ways of how Malaysian banks do their jobs with regards to loans.

FYI to those who think so greatly about the Malaysian banking systems, those who go through the 'proper channels' are often down with delays, rejection and lack of proper guidance/backups. Most people go for the 'back door' jobs with a 'guarantee' system...

They go through specialized officers, who appears to be everyday bank staffs who are authorized to do the 'job' for a fee (normally its about 10%... but the higher the loan, the lower the percentage -that's how it goes).

Bro, this system works for those who are 'needy' whereby they DO NOT have to resort to loan sharks. Its those who are desperate and can't get any loans approved who resort to them, usually. The above mentioned system is so-called 'guaranteed' system and you need to get real good contacts with the insiders. Should your loan applications be rejected, you will be receiving a full refund of your application 'fee' (which you need to pay for the insider/agents to do their jobs).

This system exists in ALL banks throughout Malaysia and only specialized 'brokers' will know how to handle them as bank officers aren't supposed to leak certain information to customers under contractual/legal circumstances.

Some may think that reporting these officers will 'serve' them good, but unfortunately, it won't work that way as those bank managers are indirectly involved with the agents too :-) The system works in a small circle. Which is kind of like this (I cannot fully reveal all but you'll get the idea):

Customer>Agent/Bank Officer>Manager>Fraud Detection>/CRS/CCRIS/CTOS/Bank Negara>Manager... and back to the customer. EACH AND EVERY DEPARTMENTS are involved.

If polices and 'datukship' can be bought in Malaysia... what do you think about the Bank officers? Its common $ense! Source(s): Trust me... if any of you don't believe me, try it for yourself!

Did you know? Your information can also be 'bought' by outsiders with connections in the NRD? Just as the same case within the banking industry, many people also face the same risk for losing their personal information through bank officers who 'sell' their customer information to 'partners'.
Other Travel Tips
Did the officer pull you aside and ask for commission in the first place? Or perhaps did the officer actually said that it is the kind of interest the bank will charge?

Sometimes body language and the tone we used in our daily life is make something out of nothing..

About the Ah Long you mentioned, Yes, they are legalised ah long...
That probably happens in some cases. If you do not like it please report it directly to that bank's internal audit department copied to their General Manager.
I was once asked for "coffee money" for a hire purchase loan and I asked loudly "What coffee money?". That officer sheepishly kept quiet and processed the loan.
The recent emergence of Ah Loong (loan sharks) is probably due to the forced mergers of smaller banks. The smaller banks understood micro-credit whereas large ones are not interested. After those mergers there is a vacuum for micro credit and left the space open for Ah Loongs to move in. Most of the borrowers tend to be non bumis because they have no other access to micro credit.
------------------------------...
Nicola, not all borrowers from ah loongs are due to gambling debts. Some are just small time businesses looking for short term loans - micro credit. The borrowers are the victims. How did you get a number of 80% of ah loong borrowers are due to gambling debts? Just made it up? Quote your source please or withdraw that unfounded statement.
banks are not corrupted but some of the officers are
(i only read the first line)
Sure !! as long as there's money and power, there are corruption...
