Travel Tips
Hi CJ,

I am assuming that you are staying singapore now. Since i do not know where you come from and what kind of holiday you are looking for i am basing my recommendation based on what singapore don't have and malaysia wheather prediction for december.

Where to avoid;-

1. East Coast Peninsular Malaysia .. due to monsoon season and possible flooding in certain areas.

2. Try bukit tinggi resort for a relaxing weekend with your mom and Kids. Quite nice rooms and nice tempreture. beautiful surrounding with ample distraction of pony /horse rides, bowling, golf, mini zoo and relatively quiet. You should take the suite as it really huge and there is many different designs.

If you need busy activities , genting highlands is just less then 30 min away.

The resort is big and safe enough for your son to run around and pleasant enough for your mom to enjoy the great view and peace. Bring along some good books and games. Nice place for hot beverage and cool outdoors.

I like Cameron higlands bala's chalet, a very english tudor design place with rustic appeal but not much commercial entertainment, just good old fashion strawberrys and cream with english scones. Rooms are clean with fireplace in some rooms. get the lower floor. You may want the duplex too. Similar to "little house in the prarie" scene but nicely appointed. You can visit the other hotels for meals or tea and enjoy the different ambiance. Of course the tea plantation and vegetable market is not to be missed.

Penang is a hybrid option if you have not been here. However occupancy rate is high in dec. book early and don't stay too long in one resort. 2 nights would do.

This is my own pick, and i hope you like it.

Other Travel Tips
If you like to get away from the buzzling city, a good place I would recommend is Terengganu (east coast of Malaysia). Over here, lots of beautiful beaches, 'kampung',etc.

There are plentiful of sea-facing halets (very reasonable rates) and many more. See this site:

Maybe it's of help to you.
It will be monsoon season on the east coast, northern and southern part of the peninsular. Not sure about sabah and sarawak, but based on geograhical, it may hit these places too

So I would suggest Selangor, KL, Malacca

google 'tourism malaysia' for websites
You can definitely bring your son to Aquaria, KL. Or u can even shop till u drop at KLCC. I am not sure about the hotel's name, but I can tell u tat the hotel just beside MidValley Megamall is worth to stay. U can even shop there if u want to! In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007, u can also bring the family to Tasik Titiwangsa. You can have a ride on the Eyes of Malaysia wheel there with your family!
DO NOT got to Terengganu or Kelantan / Kuantan in December its the moonsoon season hotels will be very cheap then but floods may occur.

You can go to Penang and stay at the Parkroyal
Traveling with a 4 yr old kid, and 57 elder, heh, it will be hard to juggle both. I will suggest somewhere more commercial then, as then your son will not be too bored, and your mum will be having a good time too.

Actually KL has alot of things to do:

Like an earlier poster said, the KLCC Aquria is really quite amazing, I dare say it is much better than the one in Singapore. heh.

If there's not a budget problem, ShagriLa is an exceptional choice of acommodation, good location, and the restaurants in the hotel are all AMAZING, and you won't have problem fitting all 3 of you in a hotel room.

Of course, if you can drive, do consider taking an excusion out to "crab island" for some good seafood, and don't miss out Batu Caves if you havent been there before. Kids DO LOVE batu caves.. heh.

But if you do want something more relaxing, Langkawi is always a good choice ... and I will suggest staying in Berjaya resort.
