Travel Info I'm a foreigner of course and how much would that cost me? Travel Tips foreigners have to deposit Rm1000+. u must have a telephone line, then only u can subscribe internet connection. There are a few things u have to pay when u register. Telephone line Telephone line installation fee Streamyx deposit Streamyx installation Streamyx fee (first month as prepaid, second month onwards is postpaid) U'll get a free modem Source(s): for the prices, the people will tell u when u visit the shop named TMpoint. Other Travel Tips if your apartment has a phone line, apply for streamyx, visit http://www.tm.net.my/html/pstreamyx.cfm,... you'll have to register first then wait for them to come in install the damned thing, i use this before and it cost me more than RM 400 ($112) just for installation. If your want a faster installation use maxis broadband, visit http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/hsdpa/i... i currently using this one) they'll give you a wireless modem, speed are good but has some problem connecting p2p program, cost me only RM188 ($52), i registered with a promotion pack. normal registration and installation will cost you about RM330 (around $92.00). a foreigner might have problem registering with any of them (i dunno) OR... You can get a linksys receiver (preferably the N series) and hope that there is someone in the apartment building that has a router without security. some company offers wireless broadband connections but this depends on the area they covers. If they cover the area u are living in, u can definitely give them a call to install. U can choose package with modem or without. Best is check with your neighbours if they knew of such a thing or ask your apartment's management office if they knew of such a thing. sometimes they have some contacts they could introduce to u. one thing about using wireless broadband is that, the connection could be tapped by other users and it will slows down your connection. unless if u know how to block them, the connection would be excellent. my sister is using celcom data card and she said its lousy. i am using telecom streamyx broadband and its been excellent. only cost me rm99 a month. to start up it only cost some rm400. check with telekom, maybe being a foreigner your deposit would be higher. First off, telephone line. If you're renting, get your landlord to subscribe the line for you so you don't have to pay highway robbery rates for deposit. If not, then sorry mate. Same goes for Streamyx (broadband) connection. Try to get someone to subscribe on your behalf, unless you're getting a 24/7 connection, then you're fine. Alternatively, if you're going for Dial-Up, Time Telecom has "free" dial-up service you can subscribe to over the internet. http://www.time.com.my/ |
