Travel Tips
Why must it be before June 9? Are you going for a Chinese wedding? Well, actually there's too many procedures ranging from before the actual wedding day to maybe even after the wedding day. You know lah, Chinese are so superstitious and believe in doing everything to bring good luck and lasting marriage for the newlywed. Anyway, email me personally and I shall tell you more. Too much to write here.

-edit-
On the eve of the wedding date (at night), the bride will preferably have an elderly woman (called Tai Kam Je) to comb her while saying auspicious thing. I'm not sure whether this is still practised nowadays. Of course, both bride and groom are not encouraged to see each other. Meanwhile, the newlywed's room are decorated with auspicious wordings like "siong hei" meaning double celebration/happiness and everything must be covered in red/pink. Most important is the bed must be new.

Comes the wedding day, the groom will go and fetch the bride with his 'brothers'. For the Cantonese, before the groom actually comes out of the 'wedding car', preferably a young bachelor will open the door for the groom and he will usually be rewarded with a fat ang pow. The groom and his 'brothers' will have to go through a series of 'tests' first by the bride's 'sisters'. These pranks will end with the groom giving ang pow to the 'sisters'. Then, tea ceremony (for the female side) will begin. The elders from the bride's family and relatives will get to be served tea by the bride and groom which the elders will reciprocate by giving either ang pow or jewelleries. After the elders have been served, the children (or lower in rank to the bride) will get ang pow by the newlywed. All this while, the 'tai kam je' or one of the 'best maid' of the bride is always beside the bride to assist.

The groom and bride will then go to the temple to pray to the gods (to ask the gods to bear witness to this new couple and to bless them). They will then return to the groom's home, this time for tea ceremony for the groom's family and relatives. Before the tea ceremony can begin, the new couple have to pray to the groom's ancestral deity to inform of a new member in the groom's family. Same procedures will repeat here for the tea ceremony minus the teasing of the groom (or bride), of course. Finally, one MALE baby or toddler will be asked to jump or sit on the newlywed's new bed.

After all the commotion in the day, the bride and groom can finally relax a bit before they have to prepare (again) for the night's dinner. Somewhere during the dinner, the new couple will walk to each table and 'yam seng' with all the guests. That's about all, I guess. Source(s): I am a chinese girl
