1) Hotel Continental (Penang Road) - rate is from RM 80 to 130 for a deluxe room. They have rooms for walk in guests

2) Hotel Malaysia (Next to Continental) - rate from RM 60 to RM 120.

3) Bayview Georgetown (Rate from RM 95 nett without breakfast).

No. 1 and 2 will be excellent due to the location. Foods, heritage buildings and night life is around you, including night markets.

If u have any problem, email me to get my contact no. I live at the heart of Georgetown. Oh Bean, are u driving your austin into town?
welcome to Penang mr bean. there are lot of them along penang road you can walk in. but i think the rate will be a little higher due to school holiday season. taxi drivers and trishaw men can help you.

alternately you can follow anderson and dead man's advice

good luck mr. bean
Hey you!..wow, thats cool..Penang is a very nice place to go and do sightseeing.

Bean, click here to see all the hotels room rates listing...http://www.penang-hotels.com/search_pric...

i've been there recently, to me there are 2 choices..if you dont mind the hectic city life but love food at the same time and nearby to all those place of attraction..then the city hotels is great for you...but if you love the smell of the sea, beach activities, pasar malam that sells damn cheap dvd and nearby to many bars and exotic foods then the Feringghi Beach or Tanjung Bungah area is great for you...

Always get on to try the trishaw which they can bring you for sightseeing around the town..

Happy holidays!!

Ah, goin to my hometown, Bean. Don't forget to have the nasi kandar. I usually stay at the 'Evergreen Hotel' on Gourney Drive. Good location, but would cost ya RM200 ++.
Check out Hotel Waterfall. Its on Waterfall road. Its only $65 when I drove by there last year. No swimming pool. They have a restaurant and all the amenities.
