Can the government take action on Chinese food shop or restaurant that increase their food price during CNY? |
Travel Info during Chinese New Year Travel Tips The answer is of course Yes. They are the government afterall. So the correct question should be, "Would" the government take action......? I guess NOT. Otherwise all the chinese traders would not have made it a point to increase prices on 'everything' just after (and sometimes before) CNY, every year. The government doesn't want to be bothered, unless it also affects the 'sons of the soil' here like sugar or roti canai which we know very well which race consumes more. But if the Chinese traders increase the prices of traditional chinese foods like pork or barbecued meat, chicken floss or bachang, you think the government will step in? Think again. Very simple ball pushing will be given, "oh, that is up to the chinese traders association lah...." Others by theory u can...but is there anyone working during cny? i dont think the government will be interested to do that right now. it will be great if they can. What kind of action are you expecting the government to take? Just imagine if you are required to work during CNY, are you also expecting for OT pay? Same applies.... Actually, it has been a tradition for them to increase price during the CNY period to offset the extra angpow they have to pay to their workers. No employees would like to work during festive season and therefore lead to higher vegetable prices.. In this case they have to bring down the price after the CNY period which fair enough. But still there are few shops taking this advantage to increase the prices all year round. Well, we can boycott these shops or report to the authorities concern... The government could do it, but they can't follow through. By theory, the Government can take action, but the enforcement officers will prefer to "collect" Ang Bao then taking action. |
