Is it common to see mix marriages in a multi cultural country like Malaysia? |
Travel Info Like Malay marry chinese, malay marry indian, indian marry chinese, or do people just marry their own races? Travel Tips It is still relatively rare. Marriages are mostly among the same ethnic groups. There are some inter-racial marriages between Indians and Chinese especially when both are Christians. Malaysia is a mosiac of races and not a melting pot. Not much has melted. Others people just marry thier own race . I guess it's rather common for dark-skinned people to marry fellow dark-skinned people. For e.g, inter-racial marriages between Malays and Indians are very common. But dark-skinned people and fair-skinned people dun often marry each other. Chinese do not like to marry Malays because of the religion issue. Indian men love Chinese women as they are fair-skinned, but Chinese people despise all dark people. So there you have it! My analytical breakdown. Mix marriages are generally accepted by the society nowadays. However, mix marriages I have most often seen is that between: indian and chinese, and malay and chinese. Of course, majority still stick with their own race. Yep, it is very common to see mix marriages in Malaysia..as for example in Malacca..there are many mix of either the Baba's and Nyonya's..the eurasian portuguesse mix either with malay, chinese or indian.. And that is just not in Malacca, it is fast spreading among Malaysians.. be it the locals married the Mat Saleh, among the races itself and for example like me..my husband is different race from me and my family root and my husband's family root are all came from mix marriages and to me it is great coz we get to celebrate so many kind of festival and we get to be proud of our uniqueness.. ;-D mix or not mix..we are one great Malaysians! In Malaysia mix marriages is OK, but come to religion matter, the court don't recognise other religion accept Islam. It's common in the cities. About 80% of the couples in my college are multiracial. |
