Travel Info Why is Borneo divided into Malaysia and Indonesia? Is there any historical story behind it separation? Travel Tips borneo is an island with countries like sarawak, sabah, brunei and kalimantan. sarawak n sabah later joined malaysia, kalaimantan joined indonesia and brunei remained a country Others Actually Borneo have three countries. Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Borneo used to be ruled by different people. The actual natives of Borneo who have been there for more than ten thousand years have really never ruled their own mother land. Either Malays,Europeans or the Filipinos have owned them. (very general and rough answer) However if Borneo united it could be a real power in South East Asia.... (dare to dream??) the part ruled by british were "handed over" to malaysia..and the part ruled by dutch were "handed over " to indonesia.in addition to that..britain when giving indepedence to malaysian borneo...didnt consider separate indepedence to malaysian borneo from malaysian peninsular because threat of communist taking over indonesia and thus losing whole bornea to communist.at the time of sabah and sarawak joining malaysia in 1963 communist insurgency were waning and commonwealth forces are stationed in malaysia...whereas indonesia were unstable...pro rusia,china...and have powerful armed communist party |
