Why the people of Malaysia seems to be static when they encounter a situation that needs the public help? |
Travel Info not all but almost all (child abuse, snatch theft and etc )they just stand they and stare or observing the situation . If you compare people that live in the west they seems to be proactive in helping people that needs their help. Travel Tips Yes, I have been thinking about this for a very long time indeed!!! All observers only!!! They become ''busy'' AFTER it happened. ---------------gotong-royong lah------------hahaha. [edit] Most, if not all, would say, "Better don't go near lah. Maybe got knife or gun! We buta get hurt only, maybe die also"..... So much for the caring society, huh? tsk, tsk.... Others You mean they don't like to help others or don't like to be helped.. ~tiada kesedaran sivik~ hmm...but malaysian is well known (or being promoted) as very nice, hospitable people. there's always room for improvement. hope malaysian will b more aware regarding this matter. In school we had been teach that silence is Gold!!! What to do? Am sure there are a few brave women in Malaysia. I can totally relate to what you're trying to say. I am myself a victim of robbery in downtown Kuala Lumpur. You know what, nobody helped me, not even the police who's a stone throw away from the scene. In North America or in any democratic country, such incident is acknowledged and attack the problem head on. It is quite the opposite in Malaysia. Yes, you are right of course. And I don't know how best to answer this without shedding my country in bad light. In all fairness, we are only reluctant to help in situation where there is a high risk of getting hurt ourselves. In other words, danger. How many times have we read that a good samaritan lost his life while trying to avert a crime? True, we don't like to get involve in those situations that you mentioned because we fairly know or suspect that the culprit(s) might be armed. Is it worth the risk of getting hurt then? For a complete stranger? Maybe the western culture are more genial and boisterous and outspoken and fair-minded. But this is the east. And if you look anywhere else (in the east), pretty much the same is happening too. Now this is not to say that generally Malaysians are a bunch of soulless or heartless people. We just choose the situations where we can help strangers without putting ourselves in danger as well. For instance, I have been involved in (god knows how many times) accidents at midnight and each time, I have met good samaritans who will just pulled over to offer assistance. Or how many lady drivers have been offered help by men to change a flat tyre? Don't these count as well? It may seems insignicant to you or other foreigners who may not understand the underlying reasons. But I am sure, others will appreciate it. In spite of what you said about Malaysians being 'static', there are remote incidents where we did help someone in distress. It is rare, true, but it happens. Just try to read more newspaper, the chinese newspaper especially. And have more faith, you may have encountered some bad experiences from Malaysians but that should not deter you from believing that there are some good samaritans out there who do willingly go out of their way to render help/assistance to strangers. |
