what!! u paid for that, oh that's awful, im chinese, and i did ask my muslim friends take me in, i don't need to pay.
I know one one in Malacca. No need to pay money and they have visiting hours. Most importantly is that you dress properly and remove your shoes... The name of the mosque is Kampung Kling Mosque Malacca...

I havent encounter any mosque in Malaysia that put a charging fee for visitors. I dont know if any exist.

However, it is worth to point out that one must dress accordingly. Dont wear anything too revealing.
For some mosque (eg the national mosque in KL) they provide robe to cover yourself during the visit in the vicinity.
you can do Masjid Shah Alam. its beautiful last time i've visited it. but of course you have to obey some rules regarding clothing there.
u neednt pay for a tour at the mosques in Malaysia (not to my knowledge so far). However not all mosques have touring facilities...usually the big ones located in tourist-targeted areas such as Masjid Negara in KL, Majis Putra of Putrajaya...etc. And of course like the mosques overseas, you must be properly dressed, if not just use the robes they provide :) & yes, i believe there is a visiting hour..but i have to check on that...all the best!
