Why do the colours of most batik clothes "run" when washed? |
Travel Info Why do the colours of most batik clothes "run" when washed? Travel Tips There are 'some' good/high-quality batiks that don't lose their colors when you wash, but the usual 'industry' standard/grade does. This is due to starching at the process of dying and drying. The starch traps the dyes that are prematurely dried and when dipped in water, it 'runs' as you have described. As the previous user had mentioned, the wax also plays an important role in the preservation of the dyes. Washing in cold water won't work, but does help to preserve its colors to a certain extent. You'll need to wash it for at least 5-10 times before its colors actually 'stay' (this is usually not done at factories as they are at mass production and wouldn't be bothered to take these processes into great details). Hope this helps! Source(s): I'm a batik user for many years... Other Travel Tips Try washing with cold water. Also buy a rather expensive piece. The color would stay depending on the wax that the manufacturer use. i thnk its cus dey are cheap...who knows |
