Snorkelling in September in Perhentian recommended? |
Travel Info I am planning to visit the Perhentian islands in Malaysia. I want to do snorkelling and Scuba Diving. Looking at the seasons recommended to go I am quite late: mid to end of September. Do you still have clear sight underwater at that time of the year? And is the sea not too rough to snorkle? If yes, which alternative would you recommend which is better at that time of the year? Also what else is there to see on the way from singapore? Travel Tips just like many before me who mentioned that it's may be too late for a pleasant trip to Perhentian at mid Sep ! Of course you can go to Langkawi or Pangkor but nothing compare to east coast [ Perhentian, Redang, Lang Tengah, Tenggol, Tioman, Rawa, Sibu, Aur, Permanggil etc etc ] when come to snorkelin or diving, unless you are heading to Sabah [ Mabul, Layang-layang, Sipadan, Kapalai ... ] If you are having a long holidays, then plan it properly [ assuming you are going to Perhentian from Singapore, self-driving ], you may wanted to stop at Sedili, Kota Tinggi [ waterfall ], Mersing [ Tioman ], Rombin [ cheap sea food ], Kuantan [ Teluk Chempedak ], Cherating [ deer farm, nice beach, turtle hactuary ], Kemaman [ excelent coffee at Kopitiam, keropok lekor ], Rantau Abang [ try your luck to witness turtle landing ], Marang [ Pulau Kapas n juicy sotong goreng ], Kuala Terengganu [ shopping of malay traditional clothing, beautiful t-shirt, many local delicacy at Pasar Payang ] then finally Kuala Besut to board you boat to Perhentian ! You may try island hopping hence should be able to cover both Perhentian [ Besar n Kecil ] n Redang ! After this, head further north to visit Kelantan, in fact Kuala Besut is just 10 ~ 20 minutes from Kelantan border ! Then try the scenic n awesome East-West highway from Jeli [ Kelantan ] to Grik of Perak [ fresh water fish ], stop at Tasik Temengor, put-up a night at Pulau Banding's floating chalet ! if your holiday still allow, then go to Langkawi [ duty free shopping ] then Penang [ food n more food ], Taiping [ Bukit Larut/ Mexwell Hill ], Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur [ you know what ], Melaka .... home ! have a nice holidays ! Others the weather has been crazy nowadays but the monsoon season starts in october. probably there would be high risk of rain around late sept. but who knows if you r lucky. theres the national park on the way. also there are a few islands before you reach perhentian. redang tioman and such. u shld go langkawi martin.. in september its the beginning of monsoon season in perhentian island.. not that u cannot scuba or snorkelling in perhentian just that particular date might not be so advisable. the water might not be crystal clear as now & the weather might not be sunny enough for sun bathing :).. anyway, for alternative i recommend u to go to pulau langkawi.. u may ask travel agent to bring u to Pulau payar which the water is clearer in that month.. well.. welcome to malaysia.. it is the end of good weather but i think it is still ok to go but try make it early of september. the wave starts on october End of September is a little late to diving at Perhentian but weather nowadays are very unpredictable. So, you have to decide if you are ready to take a risk. Before moonsoon starts, the surface of the sea will be very very calm. Good for snorkling but nothing much to see. Alternatively, go to the western side of Malaysia for a change. ================ For the first time I ever agree with Musa.. The best time to go is May - June time frame. However, early to mid Sept is still OK. |
