Malaysians...do the malls and family destinations in KL close during chinese new year? How long?

Travel Tips
Hi Mareko..you need not worry because most of the major shopping malls are open throughout CNY as they are not facing shortage of staffs. You may take this opportunity to shop as much as you want in this sales period. A word of cautious though, you could feel yourself in a place full of foreigners such as Vietnamese, Banglas, Myanmars or Indons wandering around the parks! But they meant no harm, they too would take the chance to visit Kuala Lumpur during this holiday.
By the way, during this holiday period there's no better time to have a casual drive in and around KL as most of the people have left for their hometown. Source(s): Major malls to shop : KLCC, Mid Valley and One Utama
Places to visit : Eye of Malaysia, Titiwangsa, Genting Highland to name a few.

Other Travel Tips
I dont think malls will close for Chinese New Year, but as for restaurants...chinese ones especially, they will close from Chinese New Year Eve till 2nd-4th day of Chinese New Year. As for destinations in KL, u hv to check it yrself because chinese owners will likely be close but non-chinese ones will be open :)
Big Malls & Major family destination wont close during CNY..

but small shops own by the chinese probably close for about 4-5 days.
I think..
nowadays got a lot of people visit KL during CNY. most of the mall will be operate. only small shop will close. most of the chinese restaurant will be close on eve, dont worry, this year is visit malaysia year. if they close, most probely only 2 days.
Usually malls will be busy with locals until the 17th Feb. On the 18th Feb onward, these mall are usually open too, but pack with foreign worker especially from Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladeshi, Vietnamese and Indian. It's not a good sight on these area especially on 18th, 19th, and 20th.
21st Feb will be better for shopping cause these guy may start work already.
i think they used to close on the 1st 2 days....but not anymore
