What are the Characterestics of Malaysian Literature?

Travel Tips
"Malaysian Literature" no matter which vernacular is perennially at its infancy - that's a polite way of saying: there's no such thing as "Malaysian Literature" because there were never any good enough writer-author to make a blip on the local, or regional literary scene. [Malglish: "So where got characteristics?"]

The most popular books by Malaysians are those on "fengshui" - hardly any literary value.

they are very much confused
Boring. Need to develop. We need writers like Garcia Marquez in this country.
-confusing
-nothin interesting
-illogical @ times

in short, plenty of room for improvement to attract youger generation to take up this subject. SHould learn fr William Shakespeares
The only half famous Malaysian authoress that I can think of is Angela Ang (As Fishball noted) hardly on the same level as Shakespeare!
yes, unfortunately until to-date no such thing as Malaysian Literature... is it something the government wants to promote? that would mean to promote THINKING... oh...

hey, look at 'Malaysian Literature' of the 16th century (in inverted comas because Malaysia was not a country as we know it to-day): that literature is BANNED in Malaysia... but that literature is nothing short of Chaucer in England at the same time! The good thing about that literature is that you don't have to learn an old version of your own language to understand... Malay is a rather developed, but still rich language since the 17th century...!

I think there is a tremendous lot of talent out there, amongst all the races in Malaysia, but it is a long way till any local talent will become famous in Malaysia... they rather go abroad, where they get recognition for their work... or they watch Malaysian Idol and become coach potatoes...
excuse me u guys. why r u being so negative?
yes, literature in Malaysia is still developing and there are some good ones u know. like the ones we have to learn in high school. and my uncle was an English lecturer. as im now taking English course in Canada, i find my uncle's writings impressive. there are so many ways to look at stuf. but i think ppl should see it more positively rather than to only look at the bad side.
u cant compare Malaysian writers to Shakespeare or John Keats, Tennyson, Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope or whoever that has made the name. it is an unfair comparison. the thing is, we should be supporting the Malaysian literature. then it can grow. to produce a good writing takes time, and i definitely think Malaysia is going towards it.
