HAVE HOLIDAYS safe country to travel welcome to malaysia. Define problems? Down in JB there are quite a few purse snatching and other petty theft going on, typical tourist pray bits, but nothing violent. I've felt a little discord from time to time with anti-american politics, like when I lost my passport and had to go to the US embassy while there was an anti-US rally right outside of the embassy, which was a few years back. Generally I find warm welcomes, and great people though. Generally I feel safer in Malaysia than I do most places in the world, even compared to my home in California. There is no way in hell I'd go outside by myself in San Jose, while I commonly am found gallivanting about in Malaysia by myself, whether it be Ipoh, Penang, KL or even JB. Not a problem per say, definitely not to me, but I do get stared at quite often. When I visit our plant in Ipoh and walk through the test floor, I feel like a piece of meat, but a 6'+ tall blonde hair blue eyed 3pc suit wearing quai lo(red haired devil :p) stands out a bit. My main problem in Malaysia was that most of the restrooms had no toilet paper; I had to carry it with me everywhere I went. It's a great place to visit! Have a good time! |
