The bride traditional clothes in Malaysia? |
Travel Info for women and men Travel Tips Which ethnic group? Malay which would be muslim and follow muslim tradition, chinese malay which would be....ummmm.....chinese follow chinese tradition. Indian malay would follow... hmmm what could it be...oh yeah, indian tradition. For malay the men wear Baju Melayu, the women wear Baju Kurung,Baju Kebaya, or Baju Kebarung the women may also have a Tudung(hijab) on if it is traditional. This has a pic http://www.zawaj.com/weddingways/malay.h... For chinese the woman will wear a red wedding dress with decorations on it, although depending on the wealth of the family the bride may change outfits several times during the day. the men will wear black coat over a black silk robe. Not sure about indian weddings. Others if you looking for malay wedding dress, it would be called songket dress. usually people don't buy this type of dress. They just rent it from a boutique. don't forget Sabah & Sarawak on Borneo... lots of different ethnic entities, lots of colourful traditional costumes and they are very often used as wedding dresses. It gets better: it has become custom here that if one is Christian that you get married at church in traditional western clothes; then you have a reception where you wear your 'tribal' outfit and later you have an evening where you wear western evening gowns etc. Plus, you probably go to a photographer and have wedding pictures taken in a Chinese dress, then in an Indian dress... all very colourful! |
