How to use US electronic gadget in Malaysia? |
Travel Info My US electronic gadgets have different voltage rating from the one in Malaysia. I wonder do I need use a transformer, perhaps a travel-sized one? Where can I get it in Malaysia? Travel Tips On the corner of Muchabeyng Dr. and Kabookolee Rd. there is a travel sized transformer store in Malaysia. Others You most certainly need to match the voltage in Malaysia to the device you"re connecting it to. You need to know how many watts the device requires, usually it will be printed somewhere on the device, and be sure you know the wattage capacity on your converter. Unless it's a very low watt device, travel sized converters may not have enough wattage capacity for the device. I live in Thailand and have brought many 110V items over here, for example, I have a 300 watt 110V stereo, I bought a converter rated at 1000 watts, it works just fine. Many smaller devices, electric shavers, Sony PSP and even my laptops have inputs that will accept 110v or 220v inputs and will convert the output into the necessary voltage on their own. Just be sure before you connect the device, otherwise it will fry. You should be able to purchase converters at electronic stores or hardware stores that sell electrical devices, or at least they could point you in the right direction. They are easily obtained here in Thailand. It's a good idea to purchase converters rated higher than the actual wattage you need, and buy ones that have built it fuses, that way your device and you are protected. Good luck. electricity for homes in Malaysia: Single phase,220~240V ac, 50Hertz, 3-pin plug socket outlet To run a 110 Volts appliance, you need a step down voltage converter/transformer from 240Vac to 110Vac. with correct ampere rating You may buy it from Electric Dept in Departmental Stores. Important: Make sure you get the right 'ampere'/current rating. Your appliance may get damage or the converter may explode if you choose incorrect rating. Pls get advise from the sales person. Tips: Electric iron or kettle always has bigger ampere rating compare to a cellular phone charger or an electric shaver. Do buy a converter according to your highest rating appliance. you may need a higher rating converter if you want to run/use them together at a time http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... yes you do need one, transformer,, try to look at jalan pasar nearby jalan pudu,, you can easily get a small size one... |
