Is it Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Melayu? |
Travel Info Is it Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Melayu? Travel Tips Long time ago it was called Bahasa Malaysia. A few years back, Malaysian government decided to call it Bahasa Melayu. There are some reasons behind the decision but it's nothing big. Maybe they want Malaysian start speak to in english as well. Anyway it is still the Malaysia national language. Others Yep, Jedi is correct nowadays it's called Bahasa Melayu, but a lot of people still call it Bahasa Malaysia. It's pretty much the same with the currency, a lot of people still say Dollars when in fact it's Ringgits. Edit: Sere, lol !! Yeah, it is no longer called Bahasa Melayu. Bahasa Malaysia The national language of Malaysia is Bahasa Malaysia, or Malay. Spoken by 10,000,000 in Malaysia including second language speakers; 10,000,000 in Indonesia; 396,000 in Singapore; 'Bazaar Malay' is used to refer to many regional non-standard dialects. Bahasa Melayu = general ( Bahasa Indonesia & Malaysia ) Bahasa Malaysia = the language that has been influenced by British Bahasa Indonesia = influenced by Dutch bahasa melayu = bahasa malaysia = bahasa kebangsaan = national language Jedi, what's the reason ah? i don't know much about this, they suddenly call it back bahasa melayu. i think they are taking few steps backward as far as national unity/integrity is concerned it is now bahasa melayu, not bahasa malaysia any more just so that all the non malays know what's up... yep, national integrity cultural diversity etc... there it goes... |
