Travel Tips
Any foreigner..be it Indonesian or American or Japanese or whoever can be easily get cheated anywhere in the world and not just in Malaysia..you need to make your research regarding everything you needed before going to any country..be familiar with everything and set or act yourself to be like the locals and you wont get cheated..yeah, honestly, if you act like you are foreigner or tourist..some bad people can easily ripped you off..example on public transportation like taxi, illegal money changer and etc..

I have a lot of Indonesian clients who can talk good english and mingles with the locals like they have been stayed in the country for sometime and they can bring themself out and about without being easily cheated..

so my friend..be extra careful wherever you go and dont be scared to come to Malaysia..we are very friendly and helpful lots, you know! :-D

Yes. Be careful if you're going. I am Asian - Canadian and you know what, they robbed me in Kuala Lumpur.
When I fist moved to Indo, I got conned on a regular basis. I once saw a Japanese man being charged $50 for a coconut!! (something you can get for free most of the time because it grows on trees everywhere here.)

Now, five years later, I like to think I learned the hard way. I look western (I'm from Malta) but I can bargain like there's no tomorrow and I don't take any chances with valuables.

But it's not worse that anywhere else in the world, believe me. Just don't be gullible and beware of overly friendly locals. Be kind and open, but know where to draw a line.
the possibility is there. some will cheat you if you look like a tourist ( especially a rich tourist). but if you can speak and look like indonesian, you can always act like an indonesian foreign worker. they won't cheat a foreign worker so much. just becareful and use your creative imagination.

check this out, i hope dave star will still feel safe there in canada:

Foreign visitors in some Asian countries tend to be "targets" for the unscrupulous service provider - be they taximen, street peddlers, or disreputable shopkeepers.

Kuala Lumpur is generally a safe holiday destination and a great majority of merchants DO NOT take advantage of foreign patrons. The more established shopping malls and complexes in the city proper are good examples besides the many eateries and retail shops in the city.

In bazaars like Chinatown in Petaling Street bargaining is expected of you for the mainly fake brands of merchandise. Just be yourself, you need not fake an Indonesian accent nor look like an Arab.
oh those malaysians...
Yeah thats true.I'm from brunei and go to KL every year. From experience, they will charge you more if you say you are from Brunei. So we say we are from Limbang,Sarawak now, they may look down on you now but at least they charge you less
