Daughter doing research on Baba Nyonya wedding, need to get intouch with people in Kuala Lumpur or Malaysia?

Travel Tips
Peranakan, Baba-Nyonya and Straits Chinese; (named after the Straits Settlements) are terms used for the descendants of the very early Chinese immigrants to the Nusantara region, including both the British Straits Settlements of Malaya and the Dutch-controlled island of Java among other places, who have partially adopted Malay customs in an effort (chronological adaptation) to be assimilated into the local communities.

In both Malay and Indonesian, 鈥楶eranakan鈥?means 鈥榙escendants鈥? Babas refer to the male descendants and the Nyonyas the female. The word nyonya (also commonly spelled nonya) may originate from the Portuguese word dona, which means 鈥榣ady鈥?
Most Peranakan are of Hokkien ancestry, although a fair denomination of them are of the Teochew or Cantonese descent. Written records from the 19th and early 20th centuries show that Peranakan men usually took brides from within the local Peranakan community. Peranakan families also commonly imported brides from China and sent their daughters to China to find husbands. Source(s): FOR MORE PICTURES GO TO http://www.notesfromvenus.com/blog/?p=19...

Other Travel Tips
Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia Capital. If you wanna know the detail about Baba Nyonya, then you must go to Melacca State of Malaysia.
Baba nyonya wedding only happen in malacca, not in kuala lumpur for your info.Try to look at malacca heritage for some info. The good way to do the research is take a day trip to malacca by bus or car, go directly to Jonkers Street(jalan hang jebat) or nearby the malacca river.
From there you can find a few of shop give some info about baba nyonya heritage and wedding too.
I am a nyonya from malacca but living in selangor. Nyonya weddings are very rare these days bcos they are too expensive and elaborate for many modern families. The rent for the wedding dress is high and hard to find. I hav only seen the full dress set once during my cousin's wedding which is abt 10 yrs ago. Try readings up peranakan weddings on the net and if u need anything further, try Peranakan associations in Malacca, Penang and Singapore and hopefully u'll be lucky.
