Can anyone tell me of any muslim restaurants in Kunming China? |
Travel Info My cultural group from malaysia will be performing during the Kunming Festival In May Travel Tips Post the same question in Travel>China. Try http://islamicfinder.org and browse for China and see what you get. They have lots of addresses of Muslim-owned businesses, religious schools, mosques and Muslim organisation all over the world. What you can do is get an email address of some Muslim organisation in China, ask one of your Chinese friends to translate your enquiry into Chinese and then post it. But the easiest way is to search for Muslims once there. They'll tell you where to eat. Ask some of your Chinese friends to write words 'Muslim', 'Islam', 'Muslim Restaurant' or 'Halal food' in Chinese characters and then you show to people in Kunming. If they know they'll help you. But vaste majority of Chinese Muslims can't speak any foreign language, only a few can speak Arabic or Turkish. Edit: Ok, I've found this for you: Hui Hui Ying Mosque Hui Hui Ying, Cheng Gong County, Kunming City, Kunming, 650050, CHINA Email: daichun98@yahoo.com Directions: 4km from Cheng Gong Town, 15 mins drive from Kunming city center, it\'s located at side of highway between Kunming and Yuxi. General Information: There are two mosques in Cheng Gong county, one in Hui Hui Ying, another one in Cheng Gong town Center. Activities 1: 3.00pm-4.00pm: Friday,Jumma Prayer Try to ask in the mosque;) Btw, every major Chinese city has some Muslims. Those who didn't spot them it's probably because local Muslims are Chinese (Hui) and other local ethnicities not Arabs, or Pakistanis and so forth. While Turkic people in the west apparently distinguish from the Han by looks, language and culture. Even mosques in east China are built in Chinese architecture and it's difficult for a foreigner to tell the difference between a mosque and a temple. Source(s): I've got some Muslim friends in China but not in that part www.islamicfinder.org Other Travel Tips Hey, I was just there over the weekend, but I did not go to any Muslim restaurant, sorry, but maybe check out Lonely Planet China, they have tons of info about cities all over China there may even be a Lonely Planet Kunming or Yunnan lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/in... www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguid... I don't know Kunming but I can tell you how to spot the Muslim restaurants anywhere in China. The restaurants first of all will look the same, but occasionally they might have their name up on a billboard in English. I've seen a couple of these in Beijing. The give away is that they wear white cotton hats. Watch what you order because some of the ones I've been to do cook pork dishes. The Muslim restaurants are popular with the locals so, these restaurants have non-Muslim patrons too. They are also pretty fussy about food hygene so don't worry about picking up any stomach bugs. Kunming is the eternal spring city. When I was there four years ago, I did not see ANY Muslim influence. If you don't like to eat in restaurants that serve pork etc., dishes in addition to other food, then find a chicken only place like Kentucky Fried. . .oh yes they are there too and the cooking oil is from plant material. in China? |
