Censorship on Malaysian TV?

Travel Info
Ok, I understand they cut all the sex scenes from movies. I also understand that they mute all f-words, and other words that yahoo answers stars.
But what I don't get is when I watched Kingdom of Heaven couple of weeks ago on Astro, they mute it couple of times. No * words, no sex, nothing...
As I conclude one of the muted words was "Salam 3aleikom" - which I guess was said by a Christian to a Muslim. Why would they mute that??? And does anybody know what are the criteria for a word to be muted, other than * words?

Malaysia is the good is censorship. Semua potong. itu potong, ini potong, sana potong. last nite I was watching Mr Bean Movie, and surprising alot of cut, mute etc etc. It supposed to be a comedy with laughing but at the last it get bored and not really good. No wander malaysian get pirated DVD nowaday becoz it more original without cutting. Even CNN, BBC also cut some of the news in astro.

Well, all 'censored' in Malaysia movies don't make any sense these days...

I can still remember watching black and white movies from those pre-Merdeka days (eg. P.Ramlee, etc.) where ladies are wearing skimpy sarongs up to their chest... those were liberally worn those days, more realistic in 'cultural' aspects, rather than what we see these days on tv. In fact, movies from those periods weren't as meaningless from movies being 'screened' by the government of today.

By the way, what's wrong with a non-Muslim wishing a Muslim 'Peace be upon you' in Arabic?
You will never understand this topic until you become a parents and have kids of your own. Censorship is good especially when there are so much slurs and profanities in the mainstream media like movies and songs.

What message are you sending to younger generations especially when young kids start to use 'vulgar' languages like this at school and home even in public?
Common sense.
AQ,

The more you post, the more you begin not to make any sense. Most of your postings is lacking of critical analysis. I mean lets face it, even in the USA- well known its freedom of speech and media, have to do 'censorship' to curb the racial and hatred slurs amongst Americans themselves! in the media.
Big deal! Go to China or Singapore and see what it really means censorship!!!
you know what i have noticed on astro is that they dont mute all of the words for some movies like liar liar...why...cause it was on at night..where adults are up and kids are sleeping..so that means they are 2 types of movies ?? one censored for kids in the afternoon and one uncensored for adults in night...you can go try it out...watch any movies at night..bound to have a word.
