Are the Maldives boring? And when it rains generally how rainy is it? |
Travel Info I am really wanting to go on holiday of lifetime with my husband this year before we commit to a life of selflessness and start a family. I love the idea of the Maldives with the relaxtion and snorkeling/diving and also think its a must see as one day they may not be here if they sink like many people say they will. But many people also say it is very very boring. Can anyone who has been there advise how boring and also advise what the weather is like in August? Many travel guides say the rainy season starts July/Aug but does that mean constant rain or short shapr showers? Travel Tips You will LOVE the Maldives!! I get bored at the drop of a hat and a friend of mine who used to go there three times a year told me I should go. When I complained that I would get bored within a day he said he would pay me if I did. I have been back there five times now, it is truly heaven on earth. The lagoons are safe, have crystal clear water with the most glorious fish swimming around you, the sand is pure white. The atols are kept immacualte, the food is fantatstic and the people are the friendliest you will find. Book full board so everything is covered. If your atol is a fair distance from Male then take a sea plane as a treat. Invariably the weather is constantly hot but you will get the odd tropical storm that takes an hour to go over, (this helps to cool the place down). Customs are strict, no alcohol,(although you can buy it there), avoid rip of tours to Male and don't buy bottled water at the airport 拢$!!!!! Contact me for more details/advice/photos if it helps, regards, Mike Source(s): I've been there and its great Other Travel Tips Am not sure if boring is exactly the right word to use BUT I have read and heard many say that to enjoy the Maldives you should be into diving and water sports as there is not much else to do there. Indeed it is truly beautiful. Have you considered Mauritius? As this is another beautiful Island in the Indian Ocean of which has plenty for you to see and do. Many excursions so you would never be stuck with just diving or sunbathing. My sister just got back from honeymoon there and had a fabulous time. Think it would also work out cheaper than Maldives too. I think in August there are short showers and weather is cooler. Think best time to visit Maldives is between Dec and April. Mauritius is lovely and warm in April - June I think. take a look at these websites: www.travelmood.co.uk www.travelbag.co.uk Also get brochures and quotes from as many places as possible. The Maldives is a wonderful place for a couple. If it rains it is just for a short time. It is boring if you are going to look for a date -- there are none -- everyone goes as a couple. So there is no bar pick up scene. Shopping is also limited to Male. The resort will have a place to pick up some postcards and local crafts. But for shopping go elsewhere. You will enjoy the Maldives -- it is wonderful -- and will create a lifetime to memories to for you and your partner. |
