Is Salford, Lancashire (UK) a culturally diverse area/ What is the general feel for minorities? |
Travel Info is it a redneck area? Is it like New England in the U.S.? (not including Boston.) Travel Tips I have met people who say that there is a fair amount of discrimination not towards minorities only, but classes. Though there is a University in Salford, and also in manchester (more than one), there are people who are generally uneducated and chavvy. There are also people who are transplants from London and other major cities outside the England who are teaching there or have been relocated job-wise and hate the area, the people, etc. Salford is a working-class community and has been respected as such. When non-working class people tend to visit the area, they judge pretty harshly, and it is here that the tense feelings occur. There is a general gand problem in manchester and Salford, too, which stems primarily from the latch-key child syndrome, paretns working diligently while no one is raising the children. The school programs are not as initing as other areas, which also pushes children away in to their own areas of existense, i.e. tooling around with nothing to do except general mischief. Other Travel Tips It was SO an answer and did not warrent a violation It's very diverse - in areas there are very few white people, traditionally areas of Broughton are Jewish, there are large Muslim communities. There are also areas which are predominantly white working class. It isn't a redneck area - whatever that means. I've been there a lot. |
