Where to go in Manchester for Morrissey fans? |
Travel Info Hi, everyone. I'm going to be traveling to England and Ireland in May and am a huge Morrissey fan. Other than knowing his hometown is Manchester, I would love some advice as far as where to go to see where he grew up and some general advice for other "must see" places in Manchester. Thanks! Travel Tips Salford Lads Club (Salford near Manchester) is one of the most iconic places for Smiths and Morrissey fans to go to. A photo of The Smiths posing outside is on the booklet of the Queen is Dead Album, in short it鈥檚 like the Abbey Road of Beatle fans. There鈥檚 normally quite a few fans there, it鈥檚 also been featured on the 鈥淲ho Put the M in Manchester鈥?DVD and was featured on a BBC News Article celebrating the Smiths anniversary. There are quite a few places of interest such as South cemetery, which is what Morrissey sang about in Cemetery Gates. St Mary鈥檚 School, the school he went to which he sang about which now knocked down. However, near that is the 鈥渋ron bridge鈥?which Morrissey sang about in Still Ill. There鈥檚 also 384 Kings Road, Morrissey鈥檚 old home. Kings Road is about a few minutes from Whalley Range, another place Morrissey sang about. Your best bet is to hire a driver from a taxi firm; this may cost you about a hundred pounds depending on how many places you want to visit but it will save time. Others I'd type in Morrissey and go to Wikipedia as it tells you where he was born, lived etc All the places are close enough to central Manchester to easily visit. Then look on the Manchester visitor site for places that might interest you. |
