How dangerous is manchester as a city?

Travel Info
im thinking of going to uni there. Is it really as bad as some people say?

Travel Tips
Manchester is like any other city.
If you avoid the rough areas (Moss Side, Rusholme, Salford, Wythenshaw, Longsight) at night, and don't walk around alone, you should be OK.
Manchester is a wonderful city.
I lived there for nearly 20 years, after I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music.
It really is no worse than any other city, especially if you are not part of the -drug-gangs.

Others
Manchester Uni is one of the best in the land. Not only will you get top notch education but you'll love the nightlife/people. Go for it!!!
