Travel Info what vaccinations are necessary going to Mauritius? and i speak french whereas mauritians speak creole, would we understand each other? Travel Tips none...don't worry most mauritians understand french as creole is almost like french as most word used are french Others They will understand you - I have many friends from Mauritius and they speak French (with a funny accent)... but they will be able to cater to you... they have lots of shows and cultural contact with France all the time....... Vaccinations???? Can't help you - Also, depends on where you're from and what you've had... You speak French so probably France recommends different things from US, Canada, etc... There's no vaccination needed to come here! Just a mosquito repellent lotion... Creole is our 'mother tongue' but everybody speaks french, so you don't have to worry. Have a nice stay!! N Mauritians do not solely speal Creole, they speak French as well Source: I was there about 4 months ago and was speaking French! Ok..... I had to take malaria tablets with me alongside having Hepatitis A and Tetanus-Diphtheria injections. If you anticipate having sexual contact whilst out there then you had better get the Hep B vaccination as well.... The biggest concern I had before going out there was the outbreak in both Mauritius and Reunion Island of a viral disease -Chikungunya Fever which is spread by mosquitoes and can be quite nasty. There is no vaccination for it so you really have to ensure that you have adequate protection in terms of mossie repellant, mosquito coils, etc [and ensure you wear long sleeves at night as I got really badly bitten whilst out there despite taking all the precautions] and the mosquitoes really do bite out there.. it was a bit of a nightmare in the evenings when they were most prevalent... See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/chikungunya... http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/front?page... http://www.who.int/csr/don/2006_02_17a/e... ONE FINAL AND IMPORTANT THING: You will need to buy aqua shoes as there are stone fish [which are both poisonous and deadly in the sea, particulalry the shallow water]. You can buy them cheaply on Ebay! http://www.mauritiustourism.co.uk/escape... http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/afr... http://www.mauritiustourism.co.uk/practi... No vaccination is required although some more conservative countries would ask their citizens to provide for malaria, but if you would have visited some infected area before landing then a yellow fever inoculation would be required. As for the language, we do not speak ONLY creole in Mauritius. We speak and understand French as well. There should be no problem for you to communicate in our country. http://www.infomauritius.com/ lm First time you're coming over here huh! Well we're multilingual, Creole is our mother tongue, but most of us can speak English and French as well, as for the mosquito repellent, we'd soon be in winter, so, I don't think mosquitoes will be much of a problem!!! |
