Are most chinese in mauritius catholics? |
Travel Info had a jesuit chinese language teacher from mauritius around twenty five years ago. am curious about the origins of the chinese community in mauritius. Travel Tips The Chinese population in Mauritius is largely Catholic. There is a small temple in the capital city of Port Louis which is either Buddhist or Confucius (sorry, can't remember) and there are also some Chinese churches that are more Pentecostal or Charismatic, but for the most part, the Chinese there are Catholic. The biggest conversion of Chinese to Catholicism was in the 1900's. There are more than 30,000 Chinese people in Mauritius and most came to Mauritius for business and commerce. Most Chinese Mauritians now speak the local french creole. Others no..there is still a muslim's , budaha's and many more. this i do not know, but 1 thing i am sure of. most of them are plying in the casino |
