Travel Info Hi how are ya? I'm planning on buying a plot of land in Mauritius and building a house with my partner (a Mauritian). Could anyone please give us a few ideas where best to buy land both from a safety and investment point of view? We've visited some real estate websites but we think they maybe slightly overpriced for the richer European/USA market. Also, could somebody please explain the Mauritian interpretation of toises, perches, arpents and acres in terms of metres length and metres squared? Looking at a number of websites we have found that various former french colonies have different "takes" on the value of each of these. We feel we can afford something around 800,000 Rs. How much land can that afford us in a good area? An absolute minimum would be around 500 sq. m. and we would like this to be near a business/commercial centre. We would prefer however, something around 1 or 2 acres (in a safe area). Is this realistic? How easy is it to get planning permission for a house on this

All I know is that when my parents were buying land there, it was a major hassle and they had to fight tooth-and-nail to finally see the deal through. Lawyers there are not exactly know for being reputable so make sure you seek legal advice that can be trusted. What you're best doing, is going over for a good few weeks and sorting it all out. |
