I'm glad to answer your question. I live in Mazatlan so I guess I know something about the matter. The airport is about 20 minutes from the touristic area of beaches and hotels so, my best piece of advice is: Hire any of yellow taxis available outside the airport. Look for the sign ATAMSA written on one side. Tell them to take you to the Golden Zone, near Valentino's. From there you can walk along the ocean front boulevard called Avenida del Mar, or you can go into the many stores at the Golden Zone where you can find anything from a cheap T-shirt to a 20 karat diamond ring. It all depends on your pocket. You can even hire a city tour or a sightseeing tour, whatever you decide.
