What happened after world war II in Mexico, the country? |
Travel Info Tell me events that happened in Mexico after WWII and other important things that happened in Mexico. Travel Tips Mexico had a collaborative role in WWII in regards to furnishing materials to build up the US war effort, and by participating in the "brasero" program, where the US government gave permits for Mexican field workers to come to the US and take over jobs that went unfilled by the soldiers fighting in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Mexico sent one squadron of aircraft and pilots, the famous Escuadron 201, which saw combat in the South Pacific. The involvement in the war began after a German U-Boat sank two Mexican merchant vessels, Potrero del Llano and Faja de Oro. After WWII, Mexico underwent a time of relative prosperity with a baby boom of its own. Politically, Mexico continued to be ruled by a line of presidents of the one party dictatorship that was the PRI (Revolutionary Institutional Party), which was in the presidency from the 1930s to 2000. One major event that is prominent in Mexican history is the escalation of student protests in the months prior to the 1968 olympics, culminating in the murder of many students during the Massacre of Tlaltelolco in early October 1968. There wasn't much instability during those years due to deep rooted political repression. |
