I would like to travel by car from san diego u.s.a. to cabo san lucas mexico and take a ferryboat to take my car and family to mazatlan mexico and go up north all the way to tucson AZ. thanks!

You'd have to take the ferry in La Paz, which is very near from Los Cabos.

The Baja is great, you'll enjoy your trip, just check your car, in order to avoid running out of gas or a flat tire in the middle of the desert. You should visit Loreto.
