Travel Tips
Hi

I have never lived in Melbourne so wouldn't know the family areas best to live in, I have just visited a few times.

This site looks great - compare and research schools in Melbourne - http://www.greatschools.net/

If you go to http://www.realestate.com.au - click on the tab rentals , but put in your search criteria you will get a long list of rentals in Melbourne. This site is the main one used in Aussie, all real estates are hooked into it.
Others
yeah Glen Waverly is nice, there are plenty more to choose from
East Melbourne has heritage homes
Parkville is home to the university and major hospital
Kensington is a village like shopping hub and appealing residential area
Carlton is traditional homes to the italian community with restaurants and cafes spilling out into the streets
I'm biased but yeah the eastern to outer eastern suburbs are the best places .. NO OFFENSE TO THOSE not living out here....

best thing for you to do is google the name
Mentone, Parkdale and Mordialloc are fantastic areas as far as schooling goes. Mentone has about 8 schools alone, all with a great reputation. Good luck with the move, don't forget the winter clothing.
I live in Glen Waverley and it is a fantastic suburb... the schools both public and private have excellent reputations, it is a short walk to the glen shopping center and movies... there are sporting complexes around the corner such as Waverley Netball center and Monash Aquatic Center. Short drive to Monash University. Not to mention the short walk/ drive to the train station in which it is about a 40min ride directly into the city. There is also buses at our doorsteps... I highly recommend it! If you need the names of the really highly recommended schools give me a yell I'll be happy to share. Mine and my friends experiences. No matter where you move to in Melbourne I'm pretty confident that it won't let you down... Good Luck with the whole move!
